Lister CS engines are still being found on the used
market, options are mostly limited to purchasing a new
Listeroid from India or an importer.
Used engines are a good buy, Lister diesels are
incredibly long lived and repairs are easy to make. A
Lister CS diesel can be rebuilt where it sits. The head,
cylinder, piston and valves can be removed in minutes.
New Listeroid Diesels manufactured in India can also be
great bargains. Though buying one
engine and shipping it from India may not be cost
effective.

There are many companies in India manufacturing Lister
CS clones. Quality can vary greatly from company to
company. Some companies are fairly large in size
and use modern equipment, others are small backyard
companies.
If
you want your Listeroid diesel to last for
many decades as it is very capable to
do, some effort needs to be made before running the
engine.
Many do-it-yourselfers (diyers) don't
mind stripping down the engine,
cleaning it of possible left over casting sand,
finishing critical wear areas, or balancing fly wheels.
Listeroid castings are usually of very good quality, the
engines are easy to work on, and parts are few and
easy to obtain.

to burn waster vegetable oil (wvo). Two fuel tanks are
used. The first holds regular off road diesel fuel and
is used for stopping and starting the engine. Once the
engine is heated up a flip of a switch brings fuel from
the second tank containing wvo which has preheated by
the engine coolant.
